WORMWOOD (Traverse Theatre 1997)
Meticulously researched play about the causes and effects of the
Chernobyl disaster on a small group of people living in and around
the power plant. Subsequently published by Nick Hern Books in
anthology Scotland Plays.
QUARTZ (Traverse Theatre 2000)
Michael is loner, leading a contented if spartan life on a West
of Scotland beach, working with the agates and pieces of quartz
he finds there. To his mother Teresa his existence is lonely and
unnatural. To his friend Claire he is an attractive but vulnerable
figure, in need of her love. To the priest Father Sweeney he represents
an alternative, ascetic spiritual path - one he himself might
have taken. When a magical figure (is it made of stone, or wood?)
is washed ashore it becomes a focus for these three characters
as they struggle to make Michael conform to their visions of his
life as they feel it should be lived
